Student Damaris Eddy was recently highlighted in the Press Enterprise for her work towards competing in the annual Riverside County Spelling Bee! Here is an excerpt with a link to the article below.

Damaris, who lives in Murrieta, is one of 27 fourth- through eighth-graders studying for the 37th annual Riverside County Spelling Bee, set for Wednesday, March 12, in Moreno Valley. The winner will compete at the Scripps National Spelling Bee near Washington, D.C.
Damaris, an eighth-grader, will represent Santa Rosa Academy, a charter school in Menifee, where she lost her school bee a last year. Now she’s the campus’ top speller again. She makes herself flash cards and studies words’ language of origin and their spelling patterns, her mother, Keira Eddy said.
“She did that all on her own,” said Keira Eddy, a teacher at Classical Academy in Vista. “She made her brother study with her and she made her dad study with her.”
Damaris said she doesn’t usually follow a set study schedule but may spend an hour or two a day early in the week or none by the weekend. As the bee draws closer, studying has taken on more urgency, she said.
